The Seychelles are one of the world's most stunning tropical destinations, where granite-clad beaches, unique flora and a turquoise ocean meet.

The Seychelles is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, east of the coast of Africa, in the tropical zone, south of the equator between 4 and 10 degrees latitude,

  • It consists of 115 islands.
  • Main islands: Mahé (capital: Victoria), Praslin (Vallee de Mai), La Digue.

  • Entry: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your return home. A "Visitor's Permit" will be issued upon arrival. Entry rules:

o It is strongly recommended to take out accident, illness and luggage insurance!

  • Weather: It is warm all year round, the average annual temperature is 27 degrees Celsius, the humidity is 80%, but the period between May and September has less rain and cooler winds (southeast monsoon), while April, May, October and November are the most ideal for diving. Showers and thunderstorms can occur any day of the year
  • Practical tips:

o Electricity: A British type (3-pin) plug is used, a converter is required.

o Sun protection: The radiation is strong, it is worth bringing a high factor sunscreen.

o Mosquito repellent: It is advisable to bring effective mosquito repellent from home.

  • Vaccinations: The health situation is generally good. no mandatory vaccinations are required to enter the Seychelles, unless you are coming from an area with yellow fever. Hepatitis A vaccination is recommended.
  • Transport: You can travel between the islands by plane (Air Seychelles) or ferry (Cat Cocos), and within the islands by rented car or bus. Left-hand traffic: It can be difficult to get used to. The roads are narrow, sometimes steep, and there are no sidewalks.
  • UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Seychelles:

o Vallée de Mai (May Valley) Nature Reserve:

Location: Praslin Island.

Features: A nearly untouched palm forest, also known as an "Eden on Earth", home to the huge, oddly shaped Coco de Mer (sea coconut) palms. The nearly 75 endemic plant species found on the Seychelles granite islands are complemented by 25 Aldabra species. Particularly well known is the Coco-de-Mer, the fruit of the sea palm, which can only be found on the island of Praslin or the neighboring Curieuse – also called the love fruit due to its suggestive shape. The Coco-de-Mer is the largest seed in the world.

o Aldabra Atoll

Location: The Aldabra archipelago, away from the central islands.

Features: The world's second largest coral reef, home to thousands of giant tortoises in the wild (difficult to access, but a natural wonder).

Biodiversity: Home to the largest population of Aldabra giant tortoises, numbering over 150,000.

Key tourist attractions

  • Victoria: One of the world's smallest capitals on the island of Mahé. Its main attractions include a miniature replica of London's Big Ben (Clock Tower), the bustling Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market and the Botanical Gardens.
  • Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette: Breathtaking white sand beaches on Praslin Island, regularly voted among the best in the world.
  • Anse Source d'Argent (La Digue): One of the most photographed beaches in the world, famous for its huge granite cliffs and crystal-clear, shallow waters. It can be reached by a 10-minute boat ride from Praslin Island, and bicycles are the main means of transport on the island.
  • St. Anne Marine National Park Park: An area consisting of six small islands that offers excellent opportunities for diving and glass-bottom boat trips.
